2) International Conference "Advanced Optical Materials and Devices" (AOMD8) takes place on the 25th to 27th of August in Riga, Latvia.
BPC meeting was held in Riga on the 16th of December 2013. 8 new members were accepted to the Cluster: Eksma Optics and Center for Physical Sciences and Technology from Lihtuania, ISP Optics, Eventech, Burgermetrics, Z-light and Baltic Scientific Instruments from Latvia and LDI Innovation from Estonia. Also, the meeting finalized and sent a letter to all the Baltic governments to prioritize photonics as a joint horizontal RIS3 priority in all Baltic states. Thirdly, the Cluster meeting made a preliminary decision to register the Cluster as a legal entity and start related activities.
BPC members have voted prof. Janis Spigulis, Head of Biophotonics Laboratory of IAPS, to be the chairman of Baltic Photonics Cluster. Former chairman Dr. Babichenko will now act as vice-chairman and Dr. Slekys will continue as vice-chairman of BPC.
Prof. Spigulis writes, "I would thank the leaving chairman Dr. Sergey Babichenko for his enermous energy and time spent to create and manage our regional photonics cluster. Its role will undoubtebly increase in the coming years, accordingly to the EC innovation and research policy; I hope that the BPC membership and activities will increase, as well. Please encourage the other photonics companies and institutions of your country to join BPC, and do not hesitate to contact me and/or the co-chairmen on any urgent item concerning photonics activities and policy in the Baltic states."
